Instagram to Introduce Custom Profile Grids and Quiet Posting Options

Instagram is set to roll out a new set of features aimed at giving users more creative control over their profiles and content visibility. In a recent announcement on June 12, Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed that the Meta-owned platform will soon allow users to customise the layout of their profile grid and post content without alerting their followers.
“This update marks a notable shift from the platform’s longstanding structure, where posts appeared in strict chronological order,” according to Instagram. Until now, users could only highlight older content by pinning posts at the top of their grid. However, with the upcoming update, users will be able to "re-order the posts” on their grid, offering more flexibility to create aesthetically curated profiles and spotlight specific content.
This development isn't entirely unexpected. Mosseri had previously hinted in January 2025 that Instagram was exploring ways to allow greater profile customisation. The company had experimented with similar features back in 2022 but ultimately shelved them—until now.
In addition, Instagram is testing a feature that would let users post quietly to their profiles, without those posts appearing in followers' feeds. Mosseri stated, the platform is testing a new feature that lets users quietly post to their profile “without broadcasting it to everyone’s feeds.”
Another major update involves the expansion of Trial Reels, initially introduced in December 2024 for select creators. The feature, designed to help users explore content beyond their usual niche, is now being made available to everyone. These reels bypass a user’s follower base and are shown instead to random viewers. According to Instagram, “40 per cent of creators who used the feature started posting reels more often and saw an 80 per cent uptick in reels reach from non-followers.”
Instagram is also rolling out new tools to enhance user expression and engagement. One such update includes a Rosalia-inspired font for Stories, reflecting the Spanish singer’s distinctive handwriting. In another move to integrate with external platforms, Instagram is introducing a new Spotify feature that allows users to share music in real time directly to Notes.
In a push to support its growing creator community, Instagram has also introduced Drafts—an initiative offering financial assistance, collaboration opportunities, co-ideation support, and more.
With these changes, Instagram continues to evolve from a photo-sharing platform into a dynamic hub for personalised content and creative freedom.
