Madhuri Dixit Reflects on the Evolution of Bollywood and the Introduction of Vanity Vans

Veteran actor Madhuri Dixit, who is currently enjoying the success of her latest release Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, recently shared insights about her illustrious career spanning decades. In a candid conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Madhuri recalled the significant changes in Bollywood, particularly the absence of vanity vans during her early years in the industry.

Talking about the evolution of facilities for actors, Madhuri said, “It’s such a comfort, you know, to have a vanity van finally. I remember we never had them. We used to go in those Ambassador cars to Ooty to shoot, in the jungles and everywhere. We didn’t have vanity vans. Not even once.”

The actor further shared how challenging it was to work under less-than-ideal conditions back in the 1990s. She added, “We used to sit in the car if it started raining—you know, wait for the rain to subside. And if it was sunny, we’d sit outside. Everyone used to sit outside. So, having a vanity van now gives you privacy, you know, and a little respect for whatever you are doing. It gives you that.”

Madhuri, who made her acting debut in 1984 with Abodh, rose to fame with her remarkable performance in Tezaab (1988). Over the years, she delivered several memorable films, including Ram Lakhan, Tridev, Kishen Kanhaiya, Devdas, Hum Aapke Hain Koun!, and Khal Nayak, earning numerous accolades for her performances. Her work in socially significant films like Mrityudand and Lajja further cemented her status as one of Bollywood's most versatile actors.

In 1999, Madhuri married Dr. Shriram Nene and subsequently took a break from acting to focus on her family. The couple moved to the United States, where they lived for over a decade. During this time, they welcomed their sons, Arin in 2003 and Ryan in 2005. Madhuri made her much-anticipated comeback to the silver screen in 2007 with Aaja Nachle.

Madhuri’s reflections on the industry highlight not only the progress Bollywood has made over the years but also her resilience and ability to adapt to changing times while staying true to her craft.
