Sanya Malhotra’s ‘Mrs’ Earns Acclaim, Boosts Popularity of Her Previous Films

Sanya Malhotra’s latest film, Mrs, has received widespread appreciation, leading to a renewed interest in her earlier works, Pagglait and Meenakshi Sundareshwar. The film, which premiered on Zee5 last week, has created a ripple effect, prompting audiences to revisit the actor’s past performances.
With the success of Mrs, Malhotra’s previous films have surged in popularity, securing high rankings on streaming platforms. Currently, Pagglait and Meenakshi Sundareshwar occupy the 4th and 5th spots on Netflix’s “Top 10 Movies in India Today” list. Even Mrs director Arati Kadav acknowledged this trend, tweeting, “This is so rare. Our film Mrs is impacting Netflix’s ranking as people are watching other films of ⭐️ Sanya Malhotra. Deeply grateful and feeling truly blessed.”
Fans of Malhotra have also expressed their excitement over her well-deserved success. Social media has been abuzz with praise, with comments such as, “Truly well deserved,” and “Sanya is the next superstar.”
Meenakshi Sundareshwar, which premiered in 2021, featured Malhotra alongside Abhimanyu Dassani. Pagglait, released the same year, garnered critical acclaim, with Malhotra’s performance earning particular praise.
Mrs: A Powerful Adaptation
Directed by Arati Kadav, Mrs follows the journey of Richa, an aspiring dancer who enters an arranged marriage, only to find herself trapped in an endless cycle of domestic duties. The film has been lauded for being a compelling adaptation of Jeo Baby’s The Great Indian Kitchen, effectively capturing the nuances of gender roles and societal expectations.
In a recent interview, Kadav commended Malhotra’s dedication to her role. “There’s no false note in her performance. She lived every moment of that character. By the time we reached the end of the film, I could see the emotional toll it was taking on her. It almost made me feel criminal that I was making her go through these emotions. She took this upon herself to tell this story correctly. We made it with responsibility and love,” she said.
With Mrs resonating strongly with audiences and critics alike, Sanya Malhotra’s rise in Bollywood continues, solidifying her position as one of the most promising actors of her generation.
