The Indian passport, ranked 82nd on the Henley Passport Index 2024, permits visa-free travel to 58 destinations
The Henley Passport Index 2024 has ranked the Indian passport at the 82nd position, allowing Indian citizens visa-free entry to 58 foreign destinations. Popular tourist spots like Indonesia, the Maldives, and Thailand are accessible without a visa for Indian passport holders. Topping the index, Singapore boasts the world's most powerful passport, granting its citizens visa-free access to 195 countries. Following closely are France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Japan, each offering visa-free entry to 192 destinations.
Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden share the third position, allowing entry to 191 countries without a visa. The United Kingdom, along with New Zealand, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, and Switzerland, ranks fourth, offering visa-free access to 190 countries. Australia and Portugal are tied in the fifth spot, with visa-free travel to 189 destinations.
The United States has dropped to the eighth position, with its passport holders enjoying visa-free entry to 186 countries.
In total, 34 countries are ranked among the top 10 most powerful passports. The Henley Passport Index utilizes data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA). The index assumes that passport holders meet basic entry requirements, are adult citizens traveling alone, and are entering for tourism or business purposes for short stays, excluding complex scenarios like diplomatic travel, emergency or temporary passports, and transit stays.
