Abhishek Bachchan Opens Up About Online Trolling and Rumours Affecting His Family

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has addressed the emotional impact of persistent rumours and online trolling, particularly those involving his family. Often under public scrutiny not just for his film career but also his personal life, Abhishek recently broke his silence in an interview with ETimes, shedding light on the toll misinformation can take.

In recent months, speculation surrounding his relationship with wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has circulated widely, although the couple has chosen to stay silent. Speaking candidly, Abhishek acknowledged that these rumours no longer just affect him—they impact his family as well.

"Previously, things that were said about me didn't affect me. Today, I have a family, and it's very upsetting. Even if I clarify something, people will turn it around. Because negative news sells," he said. Emphasizing the lack of accountability among those spreading unverified information, he added, "You're not me. You don't live my life. You're not answerable to the people that I'm answerable to. People who put out such negativity have to live with their conscience. They need to deal with their conscience and answer to their maker."

He further shared his perspective on the modern phenomenon of social media trolling, noting that while he has developed a thick skin over the years, not everyone close to him is immune. "See, it's not just me. I don't get affected. I know what the rigmarole of this place is. There are families involved. I'll give you a very good example of this whole new fad of trolling," he said.

Recalling a specific incident, Abhishek mentioned how a troll’s comment on one of his posts had deeply hurt his friend, actor Sikander Kher. Reacting to the troll, Sikander shared his address publicly and challenged the person to repeat their words in person. Abhishek reflected on the incident, stating, "It's so convenient to sit anonymously behind a computer screen and write the nastiest things. You do realise you're hurting somebody. No matter how thick-skinned they are, it affects them. How would you like it if somebody did that to you? If you're going to say it on the internet, I dare you to come say it to me on my face. That person clearly will never have the guts to come and tell me this on my face. If someone comes and tells me things on my face, then I will feel they have conviction. I will respect that."

On the professional front, Abhishek is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Kaalidhar Laapata, which is slated to premiere on ZEE5 on July 4. In the film, he portrays a middle-aged man who chooses to walk away from his family and seek a fresh start after a deep betrayal. The cast also includes Daivik Bhagela and Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles.

Beyond that, he is also part of Siddharth Anand's much-anticipated project King, which stars Shah Rukh Khan alongside Suhana Khan, Abhay Verma, Saurabh Shukla, and Jaideep Ahlawat. The film reportedly also features Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, and Anil Kapoor, although an official announcement about the full cast is still awaited. The film is currently in production.
