Ajay Devgan starrrer Shaitaan Box Office collection soars higher

The film "Shaitaan," featuring Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, and Jyotika, reportedly grossed around Rs 7 crore on Monday, based on early estimates.

Director Vikas Bahl's supernatural thriller "Shaitaan," featuring Ajay Devgn, Madhavan, and Jyotika, had a strong start on its opening day, earning Rs 15.21 crore in India. Following a surge in box office numbers on the second and third days — Rs 19.18 crore on Saturday and Rs 20.74 crore on Sunday — there was a decline in collections on Monday, the fourth day since its theatrical release.

In "Shaitaan," Ajay and Jyothika portray an urban couple grappling with the challenges of raising their worldly-wise children. During a visit to their farmhouse, they encounter a stranger named Vanraaj (Madhavan), initially appearing as a friendly gentleman in need of assistance. However, his true identity emerges as an English-speaking occultist who has possessed their daughter Janvi (Janaki Bodiwala).

The nimble treatment and eerie twists in "Shaitaan" create moments that grip the audience, particularly in the darkness of a multiplex. For example, during critical moments, Vanraaj prompts Janvi to laugh or dance, intensifying the sense of helplessness experienced by the parents, which resonates through the screen. Much credit is due to Krishnadev Yagnik's storyline, which skillfully defies conventional expectations of characters within a supernatural setting, adding depth to the narrative.

According to the trade website Sacnilk, the movie is estimated to have earned approximately Rs 7 crore in India (early estimates) for all languages combined. The total domestic earnings of "Shaitaan" across all languages are estimated to be around Rs 61 crore.

On the fourth day, the overall Hindi occupancy for "Shaitaan" was recorded at 14.96%, with 9.55% for morning shows, 13.33% for afternoon shows, 14.70% for evening shows, and 22.26% for night shows.

Internationally, "Shaitaan" has amassed Rs. 15.26 crore (USD 1.86 million) over the first weekend, contributing to its worldwide weekend gross collection of Rs. 80.31 crore (USD 9.80 million). This achievement marks Ajay Devgn's second-highest overseas opening.

"Shaitaan" is produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak under the banners of Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios. This supernatural drama serves as a Hindi remake of the 2023 Gujarati film "Vash" and revolves around the plight of a family held hostage at their home by a man possessing supernatural powers.
