BTS’s Jin Reveals Group’s Initial Doubts About Hit Song ‘Dynamite’ on Netflix’s Screwball
In a recent episode of Netflix’s Screwball, which aired on May 18, BTS member Jin made a candid revelation about the group's initial reaction to their chart-topping 2020 hit Dynamite. Despite the song's global success, Jin shared that it wasn’t an immediate favorite among the members.
“We were very lucky. Here's the thing with ‘Dynamite.’ It was never the song that the members favored,” Jin admitted during the show. He went on to explain the circumstances that led to the song’s release: “We had a scheduled tour, but it got canceled due to the pandemic. We couldn't just idle, so our agency prepared three demos for us. Dynamite was the first one we heard. We asked for alternatives, but we liked the other two less.” He added, “We weren't exactly thrilled about it,” as reported by Sportskeeda.
Released in 2020, Dynamite marked a milestone in BTS’s career. The upbeat, all-English track made history by debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making BTS the first all-South Korean act to achieve that feat. The single sold 265,000 downloads in its first week, the biggest for any song since Taylor Swift’s 2017 release Look What You Made Me Do.
Jin’s revelation sparked a wave of reactions across social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), where fans expressed mixed emotions. One user commented, “for once in my life, i strongly disagree with the bts. dynamite is a vibe, it's a great song, which is why it became a global hit. you'll never make me hate dynamite.” Another fan questioned, “we out here defending dynamite with our life and not even bts like it??????????”
Some fans tried to put the revelation in perspective, with a user writing, “yall making the dynamite thing a discourse again.... artistic versatility and freedom should be given to bts and that's that.” Others responded with humor and disbelief, with comments like “BTS are dynamite haters?” and “Sorry jin i f*cking love dynamite like i am on the stars every night.”
While Dynamite continues to be a beloved anthem for many fans worldwide, Jin’s comments have opened up new conversations about creative freedom and artistic preferences within global pop phenomena like BTS.
