Game Changer Day 1 Box Office Collection: Ram Charan and Kiara Advani’s Political Drama Off to a Strong Start

The highly anticipated political drama Game Changer, directed by Shankar and starring Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, SJ Suryah, and Anjali, hit theatres on January 10. The film, which addresses corruption in electoral politics, opened to an impressive ₹47.13 crore net collection in India, as per Sacnilk. This figure has already surpassed the opening day business of Ram Charan's previous solo release, Vinaya Vidheya Rama (VVR).
Breaking down the collections, the Telugu version contributed ₹38 crore, the Tamil version ₹2 crore, and the Hindi version ₹7 crore. The Kannada and Malayalam versions added ₹0.1 crore and ₹0.03 crore, respectively. “The film had 55.82% occupancy for the morning shows and 39.33% occupancy for the afternoon shows of the Telugu version. The evening shows stand at 50.53%. The afternoon shows of the 4DX version of Hindi had 82% occupancy,” Sacnilk reported.
Game Changer has outperformed the openings of Ram Charan’s previous films like Boyapati Srinu's Vinaya Vidheya Rama and Koratala Siva's Acharya, which he co-starred in with Chiranjeevi. However, it fell short of matching the record-breaking debut of SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which collected ₹133 crore on its first day.
This film marks Ram Charan's first solo project in six years, following the 2019 release of Vinaya Vidheya Rama, which opened with ₹34 crore. Afterward, Ram Charan starred in the blockbuster RRR alongside Jr NTR and Alia Bhatt in 2022. The same year, he appeared with Chiranjeevi in Acharya, which earned ₹37.10 crore on its first day. More recently, he made a cameo in Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan in 2023.
In Game Changer, Ram Charan portrays dual roles: IAS officer Ram Nandan and activist Appanna. Kiara Advani plays his love interest, Deepika, while Anjali takes on the role of Parvathy. SJ Suryah plays Mopidevi, a corrupt politician, and Srikanth portrays Sathyamurthy, an aging chief minister. Written by Karthik Subbaraj, the film dives deep into the murky waters of corruption in Indian politics.
Hindustan Times reviewed the film as “strictly average, even as you’re rooting for it to be something more.” The review noted, “It succeeds in staying focused on what it sets out to do - call out corruption in Indian politics - but gives you nothing more. And after Shankar’s last outing, Indian 2, maybe that’s a win.”
With a strong opening day and continued audience interest, Game Changer is expected to sustain its momentum at the box office in the coming days.
