Netflix Secures Rights to Adapt Ana Huang's Popular "Twisted" Series

Netflix has acquired the rights to adapt Ana Huang's highly popular romantic book series Twisted Love and its sequels into a television series, as first reported by Variety. The deal, reportedly valued in the seven-figure range, marks another addition to Netflix's growing lineup of romance book-to-screen adaptations.

The Twisted series, penned by Chinese-American author Ana Huang, has gained massive popularity, particularly within the TikTok "BookTok" community. Hashtags such as "#TwistedSeries" and "#AnaHuang" have collectively garnered billions of views, underscoring the series’ global reach. The books, which include Twisted Love (2021), Twisted Games, Twisted Hate, and Twisted Lies, have collectively sold over 12 million copies and been translated into multiple languages. The debut book in the series also spent an impressive 60 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.

According to an official synopsis, the series is "a steamy new adult series that follows the lives of four best friends and their brooding love interests, riddled with dark secrets from their pasts, as they overcome the obstacles keeping them apart to fall in love."

Described as even wilder and more dramatic than other Netflix hits like Bridgerton and Virgin River, the upcoming adaptation is expected to feature "scandalous affairs, forbidden romances, and jaw-dropping twists."

Ana Huang, who has published 13 novels across four series and sold over 18 million copies worldwide, expressed her excitement at the adaptation. While casting details have yet to be announced, fans are eagerly speculating about who will bring their favorite characters to life.

Netflix's adaptation of the Twisted series is poised to capitalize on the global success of romantic dramas and continues the platform’s trend of investing in stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. If greenlit, the series is expected to be a major success, further cementing Netflix's reputation as a hub for compelling romantic adaptations.
