Janhvi Kapoor Garners Praise at Cannes 2025 for Homebound, Shares Deep Admiration for Director Neeraj Ghaywan

Janhvi Kapoor is receiving widespread acclaim for her role in Homebound, which recently had its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The film was featured in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section and earned an extraordinary nine-minute standing ovation, solidifying its place as a standout at this year’s festival.

In what marks her first collaboration with celebrated filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, Janhvi has openly expressed her admiration for the director. Speaking to Deadline Hollywood, she revealed the profound emotional impact of the film's script. "She explained that she was immediately drawn to the story and knew she wanted to be involved in any capacity." Janhvi further shared, “Every actor hopes to work with him,” calling the experience of working with Ghaywan a dream come true.

Her enthusiasm for the project was so strong that, after wrapping up the shoot, she sent a heartfelt message to the director. “Even after I finished shooting for this film, I messaged him and said that ‘I don’t mind if I need to play a tree in the background of your next film; I just need to be in it,’” she recalled, underscoring the deep respect she holds for Ghaywan’s creative vision. “For her, being on set under his direction was a tremendous honour.”

Homebound features a powerful ensemble cast including Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa. The project also boasts a strong production team with Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra producing the film, along with co-producers Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier. Adding to the film’s international prestige, legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has come on board as executive producer.

This marks Neeraj Ghaywan’s second feature film and his second selection at Cannes, further cementing his reputation as one of India’s most visionary directors.
