Taylor Swift Named IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year for the Fifth Time

Taylor Swift has been awarded the title of Global Recording Artist of the Year for 2024 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), marking her fifth time receiving the honor. The global music organization, which represents the recorded music industry, made the announcement on Tuesday.
In addition to securing the top spot, Swift's latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, dominated multiple IFPI charts, including Global Album, Global Vinyl Album, Global Streaming Album, and Global Album Sales. The IFPI confirmed that her record led the 2024 Global Album Sales chart with 5.6 million units sold, including physical purchases and full album downloads. The second position on the chart was claimed by K-pop group ENHYPEN's Romance: Untold, which recorded 3.4 million units in sales.
Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour—the first tour in history to surpass $1 billion in revenue—also played a significant role in boosting interest in her earlier albums. As a result, several of her past records featured prominently on the 2024 Vinyl Album and Streaming Album charts.
"This has been a huge year for Taylor, and it has been incredible to see the extent to which fans all over the world are connecting with her superb catalogue of music," stated IFPI Chief Executive Victoria Oakley.
Swift first claimed the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year title in 2014, followed by wins in 2019, 2022, and 2023. Her latest victory makes her the most awarded artist since the accolade was introduced 12 years ago.
The award is determined by an artist’s overall worldwide sales across streaming, download, and physical formats during the calendar year, encompassing their entire body of work, according to the IFPI.
