Kajol Clarifies Her Comment on Ramoji Film City Being Haunted Amid Backlash

Bollywood actress Kajol recently found herself in the midst of online backlash after making a comment during an interview about the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad being “one of the most haunted places in the world.” The remark, made during the promotions of her upcoming horror-mythological film Maa, triggered a wave of criticism on social media, with users accusing the actress of making sensational claims merely to promote her film.

While speaking to Galatta India, Kajol was asked whether she had ever felt the presence of negative energy around her. She responded, "There are quite a few places like that. A prime example is Ramoji Rao Studios in Hyderabad, which is considered one of the most haunted places in the world. I am lucky enough not to have seen anything (ghosts), though."

The comment didn’t sit well with many online users. Some felt her statement was an unnecessary attempt to build hype around Maa. Reactions on social media ranged from sarcasm to outright anger. One user commented, “Kajol is just trying to promote her new horror movie that's it!” Another wrote, “For promoting her new horror film she's making baseless and useless statements on Ramoji Film City. I have friends who work in that film city; they never spoken a single word according to her statement and they even worked in the nights...” Some even went as far as suggesting legal action, saying, “Imagine how much money Ramoji Group can make if they file a defamation suit on Kajol and win.”

Responding to the wave of criticism, Kajol issued a clarification on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle. In her statement, she sought to clear the air, expressing her deep respect for the film city and its reputation. She wrote, "I wish to address my earlier remark about Ramoji Film City in the context of promoting my film MAA. I have filmed multiple projects at Ramoji Film City and stayed there many times over the years. I have always found it to be a very professional environment for filmmaking and I have seen so many tourists enjoying themselves. It's a great destination and absolutely safe for families and children."

Kajol’s clarification appears to be an attempt to put an end to the growing controversy, especially as her film gears up for release. While her original comment sparked debate, her follow-up reinforces her appreciation for the iconic film studio, highlighting its importance as a safe and welcoming place for both filmmakers and visitors alike.
