Alia Bhatt's Action Thriller Jigra Struggles at the Box Office, Set for OTT Release

Alia Bhatt has made her much-anticipated return to the big screen with the action thriller Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala. The film, released on October 11, 2024, also stars Vedang Raina and follows the story of Satya, portrayed by Bhatt, who embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue her younger brother Ankur, played by Raina, after he is wrongfully imprisoned abroad.

Despite Alia Bhatt's star power and the gripping premise, Jigra has faced challenges at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the film has grossed approximately Rs 21.10 crore since its release. The mixed reviews and average word-of-mouth have contributed to its lukewarm reception, making it difficult for the film to gain significant momentum.

In terms of digital streaming, Netflix has acquired the rights to Jigra, according to reports from Economic Times. While no official release date has been announced by the platform, the film is expected to be available for streaming by late November or early December. This aligns with the industry-standard theatrical window of seven to eight weeks before films make their way to OTT platforms.

Alia Bhatt, in a recent interview with Tried & Refused Productions, discussed her decision to explore action roles. She shared, “It’s cool ya to see a woman fight and really fight, and you do not really have to think that this is a woman fighting. It’s just a human being fighting for whatever x, y, z reason.” Her comments highlight her commitment to challenging conventional gender roles in cinema and portraying characters with strength and depth.

As Jigra continues its theatrical run amidst mixed reactions, audiences can soon look forward to its OTT release on Netflix, where its combination of action and emotional storytelling is expected to reach a broader audience.
