Samantha Ruth Prabhu Opens Up About Apprehensions While Filming Citadel: Honey Bunny
Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently revealed her concerns about taking on a key role in Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian spin-off of the global action-thriller series Citadel. The series, directed by renowned filmmaker duo Raj and DK, also stars Varun Dhawan. In a candid interview with Galatta India, Samantha shared that her battle with myositis, an autoimmune condition, had made her doubt her ability to perform in the physically demanding role.
Samantha admitted that during the filming, she even requested the directors to replace her in the show, fearing she would not be able to continue due to her health struggles. "I begged them to move on because I really didn’t think I could do it. I was really sure I couldn’t. I sent other recommendations: ‘Look at this heroine; she is so amazing. She will kill it. I beg you, I can’t do this.’ I sent like four options to them. I was really not well," she said.
Despite her condition, Raj and DK decided to stand by Samantha, and the actor eventually found the strength to complete the series. Reflecting on her experience, she expressed gratitude for their faith in her. "Now, watching this show, I am so thankful that they didn’t make it without me and that I found the strength to do it. Even before the verdict is out for this show, I am going to give it to myself for pulling through," she added.
Citadel: Honey Bunny is an upcoming action-thriller series in which Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu portray the titular characters Bunny and Honey, respectively, who are elite spies. The show is a prequel to the original Citadel series, which starred Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden. The new series will also feature an eight-year-old version of Priyanka’s character, Nadia Sinh, portrayed by young actor Kasvi.
In addition to the lead pair, the ensemble cast includes Kay Kay Menon, Simran Bagga, Sikandar Kher, and Saqib Saleem, who play pivotal roles in the narrative.
Citadel: Honey Bunny is set to premiere on November 7, 2024.
