Param Sundari Box Office Collection Day 2: Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor Starrer Holds Steady Despite Mixed Reviews
Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor’s latest romantic comedy Param Sundari is showing resilience at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. Released on August 29, the film has managed to maintain momentum over its first two days, driven largely by the on-screen chemistry of the lead pair.
According to early estimates, Param Sundari collected ₹7.25 crore on its opening day, marking Sidharth Malhotra’s fifth-biggest career opening. On its second day, the film saw growth, earning ₹9.22 crore, which brought its total domestic collection to ₹16.47 crore. This performance enabled the film to surpass the lifetime earnings of Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which had collected ₹12.85 crore in total.
However, comparisons with blockbuster rom-coms show a clear gap. While some sections of the audience likened Param Sundari to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Chennai Express, the numbers tell a different story. Chennai Express had earned ₹28.05 crore on its second day, a figure that Param Sundari falls well short of.
Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, the movie features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Kapoor, Manjot Singh, Innayat Verma, and Renji Panicker alongside the leads. While the film faced criticism for its predictable screenplay and underwhelming storyline, both Sidharth and Janhvi’s chemistry and the vibrant soundtrack have drawn praise from audiences.
The narrative follows Param, a young man from Delhi, who uses an AI-powered app in his quest for love, eventually meeting Sundari, a woman from Kerala. Though the concept blends modern technology with a traditional love story, reviewers have been divided on its execution.
An excerpt from Hindustan Times’ review of the film noted, “If rom-coms are meant to sweep you off your feet, Param Sundari barely manages a polite handshake. Sometimes, technology may help you find a soulmate, but no algorithm can save a film that forgets to make you feel.”
Despite the mixed reception, the film’s steady box office run over its opening weekend suggests that word of mouth and the lead pair’s charm are helping sustain audience interest. Industry experts believe that its performance over the coming week will determine whether Param Sundari emerges as a hit or settles into being an average grosser.
