Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Collection Day 5: Aamir Khan's Film Crosses ₹70 Crore Mark
Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated release Sitaare Zameen Par continues to make waves at the box office, though Day 5 witnessed a noticeable dip in collections. Released on June 20, the emotional drama has now crossed the ₹70 crore mark domestically.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted the film’s stable performance at major urban centres on its first working day, Monday, following an impressive weekend. “Monday's numbers look good when compared to Friday, but considering the sharp growth over Saturday and Sunday, a double-digit Monday was essential.” The lack of discounted pricing under the popular #BlockbusterTuesdays initiative seemed to have affected Tuesday's footfalls. Adarsh added, “It will be interesting to see how it fares for the movie on Tuesday and the remaining work week.”
As per early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, the Aamir Khan and Genelia D’Souza starrer collected ₹4.21 crore on Tuesday. This marks a significant decline from Monday’s ₹8.5 crore, itself a drop from the film’s strong weekend numbers. “The numbers would likely have been better had the movie opted for the discounted prices.”
With Tuesday’s figures, Sitaare Zameen Par has brought its total domestic earnings to ₹70.86 crore. However, it’s important to note that these are preliminary estimates and may be revised once final figures from the evening and night shows are accounted for.
On June 24, the film recorded an overall occupancy rate of 13.62%. For the Hindi version, the breakdown was as follows:
Morning Shows: 9.28%
Afternoon Shows: 17.95%
Data for evening and night shows is still awaited, but cities such as Jaipur, Chennai, Chandigarh, and Delhi NCR reported the highest audience turnout for the day.
Globally, the RS Prasanna directorial has already raked in an estimated ₹110 crore. After experiencing a near 100% spike in collections on Saturday, the film maintained momentum with strong Sunday earnings, pushing its opening weekend figures to around ₹58–60 crore net—making it the highest Indian opening weekend of the year so far.
The film’s overseas earnings stand at ₹30 crore, while its India gross is reported to be ₹80 crore, reflecting solid worldwide appeal.
Despite the Day 5 slowdown, Sitaare Zameen Par appears to have resonated well with audiences both at home and abroad, and all eyes are now on its performance in the second week.
