Veteran Actor Atul Parchure Passes Away at 57 After Battling Cancer, Leaving a Legacy in Marathi and Hindi Cinema
Renowned actor Atul Parchure, celebrated for his notable contributions to both Marathi and Hindi cinema, passed away on Monday at the age of 57. According to The Indian Express, Parchure had been battling cancer for several years.
Parchure was widely known for his ability to excel in comedic roles, having worked alongside some of Bollywood’s biggest stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Juhi Chawla, Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Akshaye Khanna.
Upon learning of Parchure’s demise, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his heartfelt condolences on social media, paying tribute to the actor’s remarkable career. Shinde lamented the loss of a versatile artist, stating, “Premature exit of a clever actor: Someone who makes the audience laugh out loud and sometimes brings tears in the eyes. The untimely demise of ever introspective class actor Atul Parchure is painful. Atul Parchure has shown his glorious acting since Balrangbhumi days. He made a unique impression in all three fields of drama, film and serials. A classy Marathi actor has been lost due to his departure.” He extended his sympathy to the bereaved family.
Parchure’s filmography is extensive and includes a range of Bollywood films such as Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000), Meri Pyaari Bahania Banegi Dulhania (2001), Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta (2001), Navra Maza Navsacha (2004), Kalyug (2005), Salaam-E-Ishq (2007), Partner (2007), Billu Barber (2009), Khatta Meetha (2010), Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap (2011), and Narbachi Wadi (2013).
In addition to his work in films, Parchure was also a familiar face on television, having appeared in popular shows such as RK Laxman Ki Duniya, Comedy Nights with Kapil, Comedy Circus, Comedy Circus Ke Ajoobe, Honar Soon Mi Hya Gharchi, and Jaago Mohan Pyare. His most recent performance was in the Marathi comedy-drama Alibaba Aani Chalishitale Chor (2024), where he portrayed a significant role as a doctor.
Atul Parchure's untimely passing marks a significant loss to Indian cinema, leaving behind a rich legacy of performances that brought joy and laughter to audiences across generations.
