WhatsApp Testing Voice Commands for Meta AI Integration
Meta is testing a new feature that will enable WhatsApp users to interact with its AI, powered by Llama 3.1, using voice commands. This development marks a significant enhancement in the way users can engage with Meta AI, which was previously limited to text-based input on the platform. The new voice command feature is part of the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.18, and it promises to offer hands-free interaction with the generative AI model.
The integration of Meta AI into WhatsApp allows users to access advanced AI capabilities without needing a dedicated app. The AI model, recently upgraded to Llama 3.1, is a state-of-the-art, multi-modal large language model that can understand and generate text, voice, and images. However, it remains unclear whether Meta AI’s responses to voice commands on WhatsApp will be delivered in text or voice format.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, users will have multiple options for activating Meta AI on WhatsApp. These include a floatable window on the home screen and a new microphone icon located near the text input area. On Android devices, a visual indicator in the form of a green bubble will appear in the top right corner when the microphone is actively listening.
In addition to the upcoming voice command functionality, Meta AI on WhatsApp has recently been enhanced with several new features. These include access to Llama 3.1, a 405 billion parameter model, support for additional languages such as Hindi, and capabilities in image editing and custom avatar generation. However, some of these features are yet to be rolled out to users in the Indian market.
This new testing phase represents Meta’s ongoing efforts to expand the utility of its AI across its platforms, offering more versatile and user-friendly interactions for its global audience.
