Aamir Khan Addresses 23-Year Age Gap with Genelia Deshmukh in Upcoming Film Sitaare Zameen Par

Veteran actor Aamir Khan is set to return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual sequel to his 2007 critically acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par. The film features a fresh and unexpected pairing that has sparked both excitement and conversation — Aamir Khan alongside actress Genelia Deshmukh.

When a photo of the two actors from the film’s sets went viral last year, fans were pleasantly surprised by the duo’s on-screen pairing. However, the image also reignited memories for many cinephiles, taking them back 17 years to when Genelia starred opposite Aamir’s nephew, Imran Khan, in his 2008 debut film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. In that beloved romantic drama, Genelia played Imran’s onscreen best friend turned love interest — a portrayal that continues to be fondly remembered.

Now, nearly two decades later, Genelia (37) is set to play Aamir Khan’s (60) onscreen wife in Sitaare Zameen Par, prompting discussions around the notable 23-year age difference between the two stars. Addressing this during an interview with The Indian Express, Aamir Khan candidly responded to concerns about the age gap.

“Ya, I know. But that was a long time ago. And ab Imran bhi kafi meri age ka ho gaya hai (laughs). That thought did come to me, but in the film, we’re both playing characters in the age group of early 40s. She’s around that age. I’m 60, but in today’s day and age, we have the advantage of VFX. Earlier, if I played an 18-year-old, I had to rely on prosthetic,” Aamir explained.

He further supported his point by referencing veteran actor Anil Kapoor, who convincingly portrayed a character significantly older than his real age in the 1989 film Eeshwar. Concluding his thoughts on the topic, Aamir stated, “So, age is not a barrier for actors anymore.”

The upcoming film is slated for a theatrical release on June 20, and expectations are high. While fans continue to reminisce about Genelia and Imran’s charming chemistry as Rats and Meow, all eyes are now on Aamir and Genelia to see if their onscreen dynamic can deliver similar magic in this much-anticipated release.
