E-commerce giants Amazon India and Walmart-owned Flipkart are gearing up to launch their annual festive season sales from September 27. Flipkart’s marquee event, The Big Billion Days, is a major sales driver, significantly contributing to the company’s yearly revenue, much like its competitors and other businesses during this period.

As in previous years, Flipkart Plus and VIP members—part of the platform’s loyalty program that offers exclusive benefits—will enjoy early access to the sale, a day before the general public. Likewise, Amazon Prime members, who gain perks like free deliveries through a paid subscription, will also receive early access.

In anticipation of the festive rush, Flipkart has expanded its supply chain infrastructure by introducing 11 new fulfillment centers across India, covering over 1.3 million square feet. “As India’s festive season begins, we remain committed to creating value for the entire nation—from customers seeking affordability to sellers and local manufacturers scaling their reach. This year’s ‘The Big Billion Days’ will once again redefine the possibilities of e-commerce by driving inclusivity, innovation, and sustainable growth across the board,” said Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy in a statement.

Festive season sales are critical for e-commerce platforms, prompting substantial investments to boost capacity and launch new features. Typically, there is a surge in demand for high-ticket items like premium smartphones, electronics, appliances, and fashion during these events.

Ahead of the sale, Flipkart has generated over 100,000 job opportunities across its pan-India supply chain, while Amazon India has created more than 110,000 temporary jobs in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Chennai. Additionally, Flipkart aims to meet the festive demand for same-day delivery by stocking over 200,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) across more than 20 cities.

“With an increased focus on faster and reliable deliveries across both metros and non-metros, Flipkart has deepened its logistics capabilities,” the company added.

This festival season, both platforms are set to capitalize on the heightened consumer demand, leveraging their expanded infrastructure and workforce to ensure a seamless shopping experience for customers across India.
