Freida Pinto Backs Deepika Padukone's Hollywood Walk of Fame Honour
Actor Deepika Padukone has etched her name in history as the first Indian actress to be named among the honorees for the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2026 in the Motion Pictures category. The prestigious recognition places her alongside global stars such as Emily Blunt, Timothée Chalamet, Rami Malek, Rachel McAdams, Stanley Tucci, and Demi Moore.
The announcement by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce sparked widespread reactions across social media. Among those who spoke in support was actor Freida Pinto, best known for her breakout role in Slumdog Millionaire. Pinto took to Instagram Stories to voice her pride and call for unity within the South Asian community.
“To my fellow South Asians- Let’s celebrate our own and not bring them down please. News like this should make us feel proud to see a hardworking, talented Indian woman of substance being celebrated on a global platform. This topic doesn’t need to lend itself to endless debate. Congratulations Deepika, you deserve the recognition!” wrote Freida.
Deepika Padukone also reacted to the honour in a heartfelt Instagram Story, writing simply: “Gratitude...”
The accolade is a landmark moment for Indian cinema, as Padukone becomes the first Indian actress to be selected for the iconic Hollywood boulevard. Before her, Indian-born actor Sabu Dastagir, known for his role in the 1937 film Elephant Boy, was honoured in the 1960s. Additionally, Mindy Kaling previously became the first South Asian woman to receive a star on the Walk of Fame.
Deepika was last seen on screen in the sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, and she is set to appear next in an upcoming project directed by Atlee, co-starring South Indian superstar Allu Arjun.
The recognition of Padukone's global impact underscores the increasing visibility of South Asian talent in international cinema and serves as a proud moment for the Indian film industry.
