Govinda’s Wife Sunita Ahuja Recalls Filmy Moment During Son Yashvardhan’s Birth
Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja, together for nearly four decades, have shared a relationship that often reads like a film script. The couple secretly tied the knot in 1987, keeping their marriage away from public scrutiny for several years. Over time, they have navigated various ups and downs, but Sunita recently shared one of the most emotional and cinematic moments of their lives—the birth of their son, Yashvardhan Ahuja.
In an interview with Eat Travel Repeat, Sunita opened up about the challenges she faced during delivery. “When I was delivering my son Yash, I was 100 kgs. I had gained a lot of weight. I thought I would die. Looking at me, Chi Chi (Govinda) started to cry.”
She added that she prioritized her child’s safety over her own: “During those days, sex-detection tests were legal. We knew we were having a son. I dramatically told the doctor, ‘Doctor, my husband wants a son. Please save the child, it is okay if I die in the process.’ This made Govinda cry even more. He was howling. It was an extremely filmy moment for all of us.”
Divorce Rumours and Current Status
Sunita and Govinda recently made headlines due to reports of marital discord. According to a report by Hauterrfly, Sunita allegedly filed for divorce at the Bandra Family Court on 5 December 2024, citing grounds of ‘cruelty, adultery and desertion’. Govinda reportedly did not appear in court until a show cause notice was issued in May this year. Following this, the couple is said to have engaged in court-mandated counselling since June. However, the actor’s team clarified to HT City that no divorce is taking place.
Family and Career Updates
Sunita and Govinda had an intimate wedding and kept their marriage under wraps until the birth of their daughter, Tina Ahuja, in 1989. Their son, Yashvardhan, was born nearly a decade later, in 1997. While Tina has already stepped into Bollywood, Yashvardhan is preparing for his acting debut in Sai Rajesh’s upcoming untitled project.
In addition to family life, Sunita has ventured into the digital space with her vlog channel on YouTube, Simply Sunita Ahuja, which went live on 15 August. The channel has already garnered 161K subscribers. Sunita draws inspiration from filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, who regularly shares weekly vlogs featuring her cook, Dilip.
