Harry Potter Reboot Begins Filming for HBO Max with Dominic McLaughlin as the New Boy Wizard

The magic is back at Hogwarts, as the much-anticipated Harry Potter reboot has officially begun production for HBO Max. The streaming platform confirmed the news on Monday through its official Instagram account, revealing the first look at newcomer Dominic McLaughlin, who steps into the iconic role of Harry Potter.

In the behind-the-scenes photo, Dominic is seen dressed in the familiar Hogwarts school uniform, complete with the character’s signature round glasses. Posing with the clapboard, the young actor stands ready to take on a role that shaped a generation of fantasy cinema. The post was captioned, “First-years, step forward. The HBO Original Harry Potter series is now in production.”

Taking over a character once immortalized by Daniel Radcliffe, McLaughlin’s reveal was met with an outpouring of support and curiosity from fans. Enthusiastic reactions flooded the comment section. One fan wrote, “He looks great as Harry!” Another commented, “Good luck little Harry. Please protect him from all the haters.” A third chimed in with, “Just do your best, little Harry!” A Potterhead added, “DAMN, he actually looks like Harry. As a die hard potter fan i gotta say, I'm impressed.”

The reboot promises a fresh take on J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, with each season reportedly covering one book in greater detail. Joining McLaughlin in the lead trio are Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The supporting cast includes esteemed actors such as John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Minerva McGonagall, Janet McTeer as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

J.K. Rowling, the original author of the Harry Potter series, is closely involved in the project and is serving as an executive producer. Sharing her excitement on X (formerly Twitter), she stated, “I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!”

While fans eagerly await more updates, HBO Max has yet to announce an official release date for the series. Nonetheless, the return to the wizarding world is already generating significant buzz and nostalgia, with a new generation of actors ready to cast their spells on screen.
