Imran Khan Embraces Change: From Minimalism to a Collector’s Home with Lekha Washington

Actor Imran Khan, known for his preference for a minimalist lifestyle, has undergone a significant transformation since moving in with his girlfriend, actress and designer Lekha Washington. The actor, who previously adhered to the Japanese minimalist philosophy, now finds himself adapting to a home filled with collectibles, reflecting his partner’s love for unique and interesting items.

Imran and Lekha reportedly began dating during the COVID-19 lockdown and decided to move in together a year ago. Since then, the couple has been navigating the balance between Imran’s minimalistic approach and Lekha’s tendency to collect things. Speaking to Bombay Times, the actor shared how this shift unfolded gradually, citing a specific incident that highlighted the need for change.

"Around two years ago, we had friends, a couple, come home for dinner. So there were four of us, and I only had three plates and three forks. I didn’t usually have company, and that’s how I had been living, so it was unusual to have four people at home. We found ourselves in a situation where Lekha and I had to share one plate and fork. After that, Lekha told me we need more stuff, and now we have enough to entertain guests," he revealed.

Imran has always preferred maintaining a lifestyle with limited possessions, believing that it allows him to manage his home efficiently and save time. "I wanted to reduce the stuff that I am dependent on by limiting it to only what I can manage by myself. If there are only three plates and two cups, the pile of dirty dishes can't go higher than that, thus reducing the mess that can be cleared in ten minutes. That was the process. Prior to Lekha and I living together, I didn’t have any staff, and I still don’t. If someone else is washing, then you can keep using it," he explained.

A New Chapter for Imran Khan

Imran Khan and Lekha Washington, both part of the same social circle, reportedly started dating in 2020. Lekha was previously in a relationship with journalist Pablo Mukherjee, who was an old friend of the actor. Meanwhile, Imran was previously married to Avantika Malik, with whom he parted ways in 2019 after an eight-year-long marriage. The former couple shares a daughter, Imara.

While Imran once thrived in a minimalist setting, his relationship with Lekha has introduced him to a different way of living—one that embraces both simplicity and abundance. As the actor continues to adapt, it is evident that his home now reflects a blend of both their personalities, marking a new phase in his life.
