Kalki 2898 AD infused with Mahabharata elements

"Kalki 2898 AD," starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, incorporates elements from the Mahabharata and is set in a dystopian world.

Nag Ashwin's "Kalki 2898 AD" merges a futuristic era with mythology. This dystopian sci-fi action-thriller draws inspiration from the Mahabharata and the Kalki Purana, written by sages Ved Vyas and Agastya, respectively. The trailer features Amitabh Bachchan as the immortal warrior Ashwatthama.

Ashwatthama was cursed by Lord Krishna for using the Brahmastra, a powerful weapon, against Abhimanyu's wife Uttara, resulting in the death of her unborn child. As punishment for mistakenly killing the sons of the Pandavas, he was condemned to a tortured, eternal life. In the movie, his redemption arc unfolds as he protects a pregnant Deepika, who is expected to give birth to the chosen one, believed to be the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, known as Lord Kalki, according to the Kalki Purana.

Uttara, the wife of Abhimanyu in the Mahabharata, is the daughter-in-law of the Pandava warrior Arjuna and Subhadra (Lord Krishna's sister). While pregnant, Uttara was struck by Ashwatthama's Brahmastra, resulting in the death of her unborn son. However, Lord Krishna used his mystical powers to revive the baby boy, who was then named Parikshit, meaning "the one who triumphs all exams and tests of life." The promo showcases the scene where Uttara is attacked by Ashwatthama, with Malvika Nair portraying Uttara in this epic action-saga.

Given that "Kalki 2898 AD" centers on Lord Vishnu's tenth incarnation, it is anticipated that Hanuman, a devoted follower of Vishnu, might be connected to the story.

Ved Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata, is regarded as one of the immortals. Since he wrote the ancient text and witnessed Ashwatthama's era as a warrior, his references and presence are likely in the Prabhas-Deepika starrer.

Sage Agastya, who composed numerous hymns in the Rigveda, is also the author of the Kalki Purana, which inspired the concept of "Kalki 2898 AD." In a film about Lord Vishnu's final incarnation, it is essential to acknowledge the author of this mystical text.

"Kalki 2898 AD" also stars Disha Patani, Kamal Haasan, and Saswata Chatterjee in key roles. The movie is set to release worldwide on June 27.
