Kriti Sanon Discusses Nepotism and Her Journey in Bollywood at IFFI Goa
Kriti Sanon, an actor who has carved her own path in the Hindi film industry, recently reflected on her journey during a masterclass at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The actor, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Tiger Shroff in Heropanti (2014), has since delivered several successful films, including Dilwale, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi, and Mimi, for which she received the prestigious National Award for Best Actress.
At the session, Sanon addressed the ongoing discourse on nepotism, highlighting how the phenomenon extends beyond the film industry itself. Speaking on the topic, she said, "I feel the industry is not so much responsible for nepotism. It’s also the media and the audience. The audiences want to watch what the media is putting about certain star kids. Because the audience is interested in them, the industry feels that since the audience is interested let’s make a movie with them. So I think it’s a circle. But I feel if you are talented, you will get there. If you’re not talented, and if the connect is not there with the audiences, you will not get there.”
Sanon also shed light on the unique challenges faced by outsiders in Bollywood. "When you don’t belong to a film background, it takes time for you to get there. It takes time for you to get those opportunities you crave for. It takes time for you to even get those magazine covers. So everything is a bit of a struggle. But after 2-3 films, if you keep working hard and if you are at it, nothing can stop you," she shared.
In addition to her acting career, Kriti Sanon recently ventured into production, launching her banner, Blue Butterfly Films. The inaugural project under her banner, Do Patti, featured her alongside Shaheer Sheikh and Kajol, further establishing her versatility and determination in the industry.
Sanon’s remarks underscore her belief in hard work, perseverance, and talent as essential ingredients for success in Bollywood, regardless of one’s background. Her journey serves as an inspiring testament for aspiring actors looking to break into the film industry.
