Mira Rajput Reflects on Early Challenges After Arranged Marriage to Shahid Kapoor

Mira Rajput Kapoor recently opened up about the emotional and social changes she experienced after marrying Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor in 2015. The couple tied the knot in an arranged marriage when Mira was just 20 years old, and have since welcomed two children — daughter Misha in 2016 and son Zain in 2018.

Nearly a decade into her marriage, Mira appeared in a candid conversation with Naina Bhan and Sakshi Shivdasani on their YouTube show Moment of Silence, where she discussed how her friendships evolved over time and the isolation she initially felt after entering a new phase of life so early.

“I think we (Mira and her friends) did evolve separately. I’d like to admit that it was quite isolating because we were just in different phases of life at that time. You get to different phases in life, and you look at your friends… I wish I could do what she’s doing,” Mira shared during the interaction.

She elaborated on the emotional distance that grew between her and her friends after marriage, saying, “For the longest time, it was me thinking, ‘Oh, my friend has gone for her master’s, or they’re travelling or like there’s a gap year. You know, life is great. You move cities, you have a wonderful family, kids, all of that… I even remember, I couldn’t speak to them as often as I used to. They were like, ‘What has happened? Just because you’ve moved and gotten married doesn’t mean you forget us.’ I was like, ‘Guys, genuinely, I’m occupied and caught up and stuff.’ I don’t think they understood it then, but fortunately, the friendship kind of sustained. They understand it now because they’re in a similar phase.”

Mira, who later co-founded a skincare brand following the birth of her two children, also spoke about the journey of her relationship with Shahid. While Shahid reportedly liked her from their very first meeting, it took Mira around six months to agree to the marriage.

Over the years, the couple has often shared glimpses of their family life on social media, and Mira has built a significant presence as a digital influencer and entrepreneur.
