Rakesh Roshan Steps Down as Director
Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, the creative force behind the Krrish franchise, has confirmed that he will be stepping down from the director's chair for the upcoming fourth installment. While Roshan will remain actively involved in the project as a producer under his banner Filmkraft Productions, he has decided to pass on the directorial duties.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rakesh Roshan shared, “I don't think so I'll be directing any further. But I'll surely be announcing Krrish 4 very soon.” The news has sparked curiosity among fans about who will helm the next chapter of the iconic superhero saga, especially following a social media post earlier this year by Hrithik Roshan’s frequent collaborator, director Siddharth Anand. Anand, known for films like Bang Bang, War, and Fighter, had shared a fan's image of Hrithik in the Krrish costume with the caption, “He's coming back,” accompanied by the words, “Yup he is,” leading many to speculate that he might be the one taking over from Rakesh Roshan.
Rakesh Roshan launched the Krrish franchise with the 2003 sci-fi film Koi Mil Gaya, which introduced audiences to the character of Rohit, portrayed by Hrithik Roshan. This was followed by the 2006 superhero film Krrish, and the third installment, Krrish 3, in 2013. Over the years, Hrithik played dual roles of father Rohit and son Krishna aka Krrish. The franchise featured prominent stars such as Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Rekha, Naseeruddin Shah, Vivek Oberoi, and Kangana Ranaut in key roles across its films.
As he steps away from directing, Rakesh Roshan continues to stay active in the industry as a producer. In addition to Krrish 4, he has plans to re-release some of his iconic films. His 1995 reincarnation drama Karan Arjun, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, will hit theaters again on November 22. Rakesh Roshan explained, “Every film might not work. But surely, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai is also going to complete 25 years in January (2025). This (Karan Arjun) was also in January, but I couldn't clash the two films together so I pre-poned this release. And there are many films releasing in January.”
Additionally, Rakesh plans to bring back his 1988 classic Khoon Bhari Maang, a revenge saga starring Rekha and Kabir Bedi, for a re-release in the near future.
