Saif Ali Khan Recalls Mother Sharmila Tagore’s Support During Hospital Stay

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has opened up about the unwavering support of his mother, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, during his hospitalization following a violent attack by an intruder on January 16. The actor, who underwent two major surgeries, revealed that his mother flew from Delhi to Mumbai immediately after the incident and stayed by his side throughout his recovery.
In a recent interview with The Times of India, Saif recalled how Sharmila visited him every day in the hospital and remained protective of him, ensuring his well-being. He shared that she was meticulous about safety precautions, particularly in preventing infections. “She was making sure everyone wore a mask, including the doctors. So there was a bit of fear of the mother,” he said.
The Gulmohar actress also comforted her son in a deeply emotional way, bringing back childhood memories. “She held my hand and sang me a song. It was a lullaby. That hasn’t happened since I was a baby,” Saif shared.
The actor recounted the horrifying moment he encountered the intruder in his younger son Jeh’s room. He stated that he instinctively fought off the attacker, a decision his mother completely understood. “I guess it’s every parent’s instinct,” he said.
Saif also discussed his decision to bring his elder son, Taimur, to the hospital, an action he initially thought might displease his mother. However, Sharmila was fully supportive of his choice. “She told me, ‘No, what you thought was right, and you’ve exposed him in such a different way to so many things’—that I mean, he’s a different kind of kid,” he said.
After spending five days in the hospital, Saif was discharged and continued his recovery at home. He revealed that he sustained 30 scars from the attack, including a deep stab wound that caused a spinal leakage. Despite the ordeal, the actor made his first public appearance weeks later at a Netflix event, where he announced his next film, The Jewel Thief, alongside Jaideep Ahlawat.
