Samantha Ruth Prabhu Opens Up About Shooting Citadel: Honey Bunny Amid Health Challenges
Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently reflected on the challenges she faced while filming for the upcoming espionage action series Citadel: Honey Bunny, scheduled for release on November 7, 2024. In an interview with Cinema Express, the actor shared how she managed to shoot intense action sequences despite undergoing treatment for myositis, an autoimmune condition.
Discussing the difficulties she encountered on set, Samantha said, “When I see it, I can't even believe that I actually did it. There were times when I had an IV in the morning and then shot action in the afternoon. So, it was pretty intense every day. I don't know if the rest of the crew knew about it.” She further added, “There were days when in the morning I would be sick and Raj would come ask, ‘Are you sure you can shoot?’ I was like, ‘I don’t think I can shoot today.’ But somehow I just don't know I did it.”
Samantha, who made her acting debut in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Tamil romantic-drama Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010) and gained wider recognition with the Telugu film Ye Maaya Chesave (2010), opposite Naga Chaitanya, has become a household name in Indian cinema. Her pan-India fame grew further with her special appearance in the song "Oo Antava" from the blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise (2021), starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna.
Citadel: Honey Bunny is a spin-off of Priyanka Chopra's Citadel (2023), with Samantha playing the lead role of Honey, alongside Varun Dhawan as Bunny. In the series, Varun’s character’s real name is revealed to be Rahi Gambhir, who is the father of Nadia Sinh, played by Priyanka Chopra in the original Citadel. Directed by Raj and DK, the show also stars Kay Kay Menon, Simran Bagga, Sikandar Kher, Saqib Saleem, and others in key roles.
Despite her health challenges, Samantha's dedication to her craft has earned admiration from her fans and colleagues alike. The series is eagerly anticipated, not just for its high-octane action sequences but also for the remarkable performances of its ensemble cast.
