Shah Rukh Khan to Receive Rs 9 Crore Refund from Maharashtra Government Over Mannat Ownership Conversion

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan are set to receive a refund of Rs 9 crore from the Maharashtra Government following a recalculation of the premium paid for converting the lease of their iconic Bandra bungalow, Mannat, to full ownership.

According to Resident Suburban Collector Satish Bagal, the Khans had converted the lease of the sea-facing heritage property to "class 1 complete ownership" in 2019. At the time, they paid a substantial premium to the government. Bagal stated, "In 2019, Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan converted the lease of 'Mannat' in Bandra to 'class 1 complete ownership', and paid the government some premium for it."

However, a subsequent review revealed a tabulation error in the calculation of the premium amount. The couple, reportedly paying over Rs 25 crore, filed an application with the revenue authority seeking a refund of the excess amount. Following scrutiny, the application was approved earlier this week. Bagal added, "After discovering a tabulation error on the basis of which the premium was calculated, the Khans filed an application before the revenue authority for a refund which was sanctioned earlier this week."

While officials refrained from confirming the exact amount paid by the Khans, the approved refund highlights a significant financial adjustment in the transaction.

Mannat, a prominent sea-facing property in Mumbai, holds heritage value and is one of the most recognizable celebrity residences in India. The conversion of its lease to full ownership marks a significant milestone for the actor and his family.
