Shahid Kapoor Clarifies: No Shades of Kabir Singh in Upcoming Film Deva

Shahid Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated film Deva, has clarified that his titular role in the movie is distinctly different from his character in Kabir Singh.

Speaking at a press event on Tuesday, the actor emphasized that while both characters share an “aggressive” streak, Deva is a unique portrayal. Kapoor plays a brilliant yet defiant police officer in the film, which also stars Pooja Hegde as a journalist.

“It’s an aggressive character but Deva is very Deva, there is no Kabir Singh in it. Deva is also not like any other character… Till Kabir Singh, people said, ‘Oh! Is he like Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab?’” Kapoor said, addressing the tendency of audiences to draw comparisons between his characters before seeing them on screen.

The 2019 blockbuster Kabir Singh, directed by Sandeep Vanga Reddy, was a Hindi adaptation of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy. Despite mixed-to-negative critical reviews, it became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of the year.

Kapoor, however, stressed that Deva is entirely different in tone and execution, offering a fresh take on his versatility as an actor. When asked about a hypothetical confrontation between his characters, he quipped, “There can never be a fight between Deva and Kabir Singh as I have played both the roles.”

The upcoming film marks a significant departure from Kabir Singh, with Kapoor taking on the mantle of a law enforcer navigating complex challenges. As anticipation builds, Kapoor’s statement reassures fans that Deva promises to deliver a novel cinematic experience.
