Shraddha Kapoor Confirms Stree 3 in the Works, Credits Team for Stree 2's Success

In a recent interview, actor Shraddha Kapoor addressed the ongoing debate surrounding the success of Stree 2, a sequel to the 2018 hit horror-comedy Stree. Kapoor emphasized the importance of the collective effort of the entire cast and crew, acknowledging that the film's success was a result of teamwork. She stated, “The kind of love and accolades the first part received were immense. It all started there. Hats off to the director, writer, and producer for cracking a sequel. It’s important not to make a sequel just for the sake of it — you need substance to bring people to theatres and earn genuine appreciation. They stayed true to how a sequel should be made and cracked the story of Stree 2. It had all the entertainment factors, brilliant actors, and really entertaining dialogues. I believe it was a fabulous team effort. It was pure cinematic joy."

Kapoor's comments come amid reports of a behind-the-scenes tussle for perception credit between the film’s two leads, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, as their publicists reportedly engaged in a social media war to claim the film’s success for their respective clients. However, Kapoor clarified that the success was a team achievement. “Ultimately, the audience decides, right? They leave their homes seeking entertainment and we’re happy we could deliver.”

As for the future of the Stree franchise, Kapoor revealed that director Amar Kaushik has already begun working on a story for Stree 3. “When Amar sir told me he had a story for Stree 3, I got very excited because I know it’s going to be something amazing. I can’t wait to hear what it’s about,” she added.

Stree 2, which was released on August 15, 2024, alongside other big Hindi films like Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa, continues the story from where the first film ended. While the 2018 Stree revolved around a female ghost wronged in her mortal life, its sequel introduced a new villain called Sarkata, a headless entity who abducts women with independent voices. The film features a strong ensemble cast including Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana, and has already earned over ₹700 crore at the Indian box office.

The success of Stree 2 solidifies its place in producer Dinesh Vijan's expanding horror-comedy universe, which includes other films like Bhediya and Munjya. As anticipation builds for Stree 3, Kapoor's excitement and the team's commitment to maintaining the franchise's quality have fans eagerly waiting for the next chapter.
