Not long after Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara, another romantic drama captured attention on the big screen. Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in never-seen-before avatars, released in theatres on August 1. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film is a spiritual sequel to Dhadak (2018) and a remake of the acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018).

Unlike its predecessor, Dhadak 2 takes a grittier approach, portraying caste as the central antagonist in the storyline. While both Siddhant and Triptii’s performances were widely appreciated for their depth and authenticity, the film unfortunately struggled at the box office and was declared a flop despite critical acclaim.

Now, with its release on Netflix, Dhadak 2 is finding a second life among audiences, and social media has been abuzz with reactions. Many netizens have praised the film’s raw storytelling and powerful performances. One Twitter user wrote, “Dhadak 2 is a thought-provoking depiction of the reality of our society, a rarity in an era of larger than life cinema that disregards the bitter truths under the canopy of grandiose. All the Saiyaarans and Animals should give it a watch.”

Another cinephile applauded the adaptation, stating, “If you can take Pariyerum and rewrite it to #Dhadak2 I would say Bollywood stands tall. A royal salute to the whole team of Dhadak. Wow. Just wow. It's a rarest of rare that a bollywood remake is better than the original in terms of writing @DharmaMovies Be Proud, Iqbal & Johar!”

With its arrival on Netflix, the film is sparking conversations once again, proving that while box office numbers may not always reflect a film’s impact, strong storytelling has the power to resonate deeply with audiences over time.
