Apple Unveils iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus with A18 Bionic Chipset and Enhanced Camera Features
At its highly anticipated "I’s Glowtime" event held at Apple Park, Cupertino, California, Apple introduced its latest iPhone models: the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Powered by the new in-house A18 Bionic chipset, these models bring significant upgrades in performance and camera features.
The A18 Bionic chipset boasts two performance cores and four efficiency cores, delivering enhanced speed and power efficiency. Apple claims the new chipset is “30 percent faster and more power efficient” compared to the iPhone 15’s A16 Bionic. The GPU has also received a boost, with Apple stating it is “40 percent faster” than its predecessor.
In terms of display, the standard iPhone 16 features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen, while the iPhone 16 Plus sports a larger 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. Both models can reach up to 2,000 nits of brightness under direct sunlight, though they still operate with a 60Hz refresh rate.
The iPhones will run on iOS 18 out of the box, equipped with Apple Intelligence features. On the back, the devices feature a vertically aligned dual-camera setup, with a 48MP main “Fusion” camera capable of 2x optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide sensor that supports auto-focus and doubles as a macro shooter. Additionally, these models introduce the ability to capture spatial photos and videos.
One of the most notable hardware changes in the iPhone 16 series is the introduction of two new physical buttons: the Action button, inherited from the iPhone 15 Pro series, and a new Camera Control button. The tactile Camera Control button allows for swift access to the camera and enables users to control certain camera features with a swipe gesture. Since the button is capacitive, it also supports a variety of interactions, such as swiping to zoom, double-tapping to bring up options, and pressing to quickly take a picture. Beyond photography, this button can also be used for image-related tasks, such as searching for images online, retrieving information about a photo, and adding images to a calendar.
The base model of the iPhone 16 with 128GB of storage is priced at $799, while the iPhone 16 Plus is available for $899.
