WhatsApp Beta Bug Causes Green Screen Issue on Android Devices, Leaves Users Frustrated
A bug in WhatsApp's Android beta version 2.24.24.5 has introduced a green screen issue, leaving some users frustrated. This bug affects Android devices exclusively, and it occurs when users click on a chat or a message, at which point the entire display turns green. Reports indicate the screen remains green until the app is closed, rendering devices momentarily unresponsive.
Beta testers familiar with app testing know that early versions can come with the risk of bugs, but this issue stands out due to its disruptive impact. Importantly, users should not confuse this issue with OLED screen damage, where permanent green lines can appear due to LED failure. Here, the green screen is temporary and specific to the WhatsApp app.
Fortunately, this bug does not impact WhatsApp’s stable version, and iOS beta testers have reported no similar issues. Meta has not yet released an official patch or timeline for a fix, though many anticipate an update to resolve it.
For now, experts recommend a few solutions for those affected. Beta users can exit the beta testing program to revert to a stable release, though some report the issue persists even after downgrading. Another workaround involves using WhatsApp on alternative devices, such as a laptop, tablet, or iPhone. If problems persist, users may want to delete WhatsApp and reinstall the latest stable version. As a precaution, users are advised to back up messages on Google Cloud to prevent data loss.
Experiencing new features through beta testing can be rewarding, but users who rely on WhatsApp daily may want to wait for a more stable release.
