Dev Set to Return in Srijit Mukherji’s Thriller Tekka This Durga Puja, Teaser Unveiled

Bengali actor Dev is set to grace the big screen this Durga Puja with his latest thriller Tekka, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Srijit Mukherji. The much-anticipated teaser for the film, which also stars Rukmini Maitra and Swastika Mukherjee, was unveiled by the makers on Friday. The film is slated for release on October 8.

The one-minute-43-second teaser gives a glimpse into the gripping storyline, with Dev playing the character of Iqlakh, who kidnaps a young girl outside her school while being pursued by an enraged mob. Rukmini Maitra plays the role of Maya, a cop tasked with leading the manhunt for Iqlakh. Swastika Mukherjee also makes her appearance in the teaser. As it progresses, Iqlakh poses a thought-provoking question: “Why do most criminals hail from poor backgrounds?”

Dev took to social media to share the teaser, writing, “The stakes are high, and every move is a gamble. The game is on—dare to play? Watch the #Tekka Teaser now.”

Earlier in the week, the official poster of Tekka was revealed, showcasing Dev, Rukmini, and Swastika in their respective roles. The poster features Dev’s character, Iqlakh, holding a gun to the head of a young girl, while Rukmini’s Maya and Swastika’s Ira stand beside him. Rukmini’s character, Maya, is portrayed as a tough cop, complete with a cropped haircut, leather jacket, and sunglasses, symbolically positioned as the "king" of a deck of cards. Swastika’s Ira, dressed in a sari and clutching a teddy bear, is shown as the "queen" of the deck.

Tekka marks the reunion of Dev and director Srijit Mukherji after their previous collaboration in Zulfiqar (2016). The screenplay of the film has been co-written by Srijit Mukherji and Bhaskar Chattopadhyay, with the story originating from Chattopadhyay. Cinematographer Modhura Palit has captured the visuals for the film, while the music has been composed by Anupam Roy and Ranajoy Bhattacharjee.

This Durga Puja, Tekka will face stiff competition at the box office, with two other major Bengali films—Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s Bohurupi, and Pathikrit Basu’s Shastri—also set for release. Bohurupi stars Abir Chatterjee, Ritabhari Chakraborty, and Koushani Mukherjee, while Shastri features Mithun Chakraborty, Debasree Roy, Soham Chakraborty, Rajatava Dutta, and Anirban Chakrabarti.

Apart from Tekka, Dev has another film, Khadaan, directed by Soojit Dutta, scheduled for release later this year on December 20. The film will see him share the screen with Jisshu Sengupta.
