"Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si" actor Romiit Raaj shares his cherished memories of Poila Boishakh

Actor Romiit Raaj, known for his role in the popular show Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si, has a significant connection to Kolkata. Interestingly, on April 14th, Bengalis celebrate their New Year, famously known as Poila Baisakh.

When asked about his fondest memories of Bengali New Year, actor Romiit Raaj, who spent 12 years of his life in Kolkata, reminisced, "It's a very special day for me. We celebrated Bengali New Year every year in Kolkata when I was growing up. We wore traditional attire like Dhoti Kurta and indulged in sumptuous Bengali cuisine such as dum aloo, luchi, mutton kosha, daab chingri, and fish curry for lunch with family and friends."

With my father's business in Kolkata, we conducted Lakshmi and Ganesh Puja in the office in the morning. My grandparents often joined us. I recall the early morning wake-up call on Poila Boishakh. We greeted all our Bengali friends with "Shubo Naboborsho," meaning Happy New Year.

Romiit also adds, "Though I stayed in Kolkata for only 12 years, those formative years from age 10 to 22 were deeply impactful. Kolkata's culture and literature have significantly shaped my life. The city exudes love and warmth; it's truly the City of Joy. Every visit there, reconnecting with family and old friends, rejuvenates me. This Poila Baisakh, I plan to wish my Bengali friends over a call and indulge in some delicious Bengali cuisine."
