Ed Sheeran Reflects on His Close Bond with Taylor Swift During Their 'Red' Tour Days

Ed Sheeran recently opened up about his long-standing friendship with global pop sensation Taylor Swift, offering fans a rare glimpse into their bond. Speaking on Wednesday's episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Perfect hitmaker reflected on some of his fondest memories with Swift and how often they catch up despite their busy schedules.

Sheeran, who spent considerable time with Swift during her Red tour back in 2013 and 2014, recalled their special moments while traveling and performing together.

When podcast host Alex Cooper asked the 34-year-old singer about his favourite memory with Swift, Sheeran fondly reflected on their time spent together on the road. “I lived in Nashville, and she [Swift] lived in Nashville, and we used to fly to and from the gigs together,” Sheeran shared, adding, “And do all sort of… I don't know… I literally spent almost every single day with her for about 6 months.”

The Shape of You singer further revealed that looking back at old conversations with Swift brought back a wave of nostalgia. Revisiting “old texts” and “voice notes” from Swift for recent court cases made him reflect on their friendship more deeply.

When speaking about their present-day bond, Sheeran noted that while their lives have changed over the years, their connection has remained intact. “I see her when I see her,” Sheeran said about Swift, adding, “I probably see her like four times a year.” He elaborated on the nature of their catch-ups, saying they prefer quality time over frequent but brief interactions. “Instead of catching up the whole time,” he explained, “they have six-hour catchups.” “I think that that's like a really nice way to do it,” he added.

Despite rarely discussing their friendship publicly, Sheeran has previously expressed how valuable his connection with Swift has been. In a 2023 interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Sheeran described their friendship as “therapy” for him.

“You’re actually talking to someone that genuinely gets it, that has all the things that you feel and have insecurities about and how other people treat you or how your family treats you, how your friends treat you,” he said at the time.

Their enduring friendship, built on mutual respect and shared experiences in the music industry, continues to be a source of comfort and understanding for both artists.
